The Direct Test Mode app can be used with devices programmed with firmware compatible with Direct Test Mode:

You can use one of the devices compatible with the Direct Test Mode Bluetooth sample from the nRF Connect SDK and programmed with this sample. For such devices, the Direct Test Mode app does not provide the required firmware, which might result in an error ("DTM setup reset command failed") if you do not program them beforehand when using the app.
Note
The Direct Test Mode Bluetooth sample supports two Device Under Test communication protocols: 2-wire UART and experimental HCI UART interface. The Direct Test Mode app only supports the 2-wire UART.

You can also use third-party devices that are programmed with the DTM standard protocol and expose access to it through a serial port.
