There are two selectable levels, IBATLIMLOW and IBATLIMHIGH, to limit battery discharge current and optimize current measurement and fuel gauge performance.
The discharge current limit is configured through registers BCHGISETDISCHARGEMSB and BCHGISETDISCHARGELSB.
If the system load exceeds the discharge current limit, VSYS voltage drops below VSYSPOF causing the device to reset, as described in POF — Power-fail comparator.
Note: The discharge current limit has been primarily designed to
protect the device from overcurrent conditions, such as a short circuit on VSYS. It has
not been designed for accurate current limiting.
The two discharge current settings are found in the following table.
| Discharge current limit selection | Purpose | Battery discharge current limit | BCHGISETDISCHARGEMSB | BCHGISETDISCHARGELSB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| IBATLIMLOW | Increase current measurement accuracy and optimize fuel gauge performance at lower discharge currents | 200 mA 1 | 42 | 0 |
| IBATLIMHIGH | Maximum range of current measurement | 1 A 1 | 207 | 1 |
