nPM1304 is a highly integrated Power Management IC (PMIC) for rechargeable applications. It is optimized for small batteries and supports charging current down to 4 mA. It is design compatible with nRF52, nRF53 or nRF54 Series System on Chips (SoC) for creating low-power wireless solutions.
nPM1304 integrates several power and system management features that significantly reduce cost and footprint. Power is managed through flexible power regulation and a linear-mode lithium-ion (Li-ion), lithium-polymer (Li-poly), and lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery charger in a compact 3.1x2.4 mm CSP or 5x5 mm QFN32 package. A minimum of five passive components are required.
nPM1304 supports charging up to 100 mA and delivers adjustable regulated voltage to external components from two configurable, dual mode 200 mA BUCK regulators, and two dual purpose 50 mA LDO/100 mA load switches. An unregulated power rail delivers up to 100 mA (including BUCK and LDO current consumption) when powered from battery, or up to 1.5 A when powered from a USB port configured as DCP. The maximum total current on VSYS is 1.5 A.
The PMIC provides host access to battery temperature, voltage, and current, which are utilized by a fuel gauge algorithm in the nRF Connect Software Development Kit. The fuel gauge provides the application with a battery state-of-charge estimate comparable to Coulomb counters but at a significantly lower power consumption.
Nanoamp Ship mode extends battery life during shipping, storage, or device power off. In active mode, low IQ BUCK regulators use auto-controlled Hysteretic mode for high efficiency down to 1 µA load currents.
