A two-dimensional (2D) barcode consists of small geometric shapes that can store significantly more information than a linear barcode. When scanned with compatible devices, 2D barcodes make data encoding faster and more accurate than the conventional method.
Nordic Semiconductor uses the data matrix format on all 2D barcodes for all label types. Stored information varies depending on the label type.
Each 2D barcode uses Data Identifiers (DI) for easier parsing of the encoded information. A DI
precedes the value it represents. The pipe (|) character is used as an added
delimiter to separate data elements. The basic format is
(DI)<stored data>|.
The basic format is repeated for each stored data element. For trace code quantity, which appears on the inner box label, the data is enclosed between two DIs to clearly mark the beginning and end of the sequence.
All human-readable information, except logos and symbols, is stored on the 2D barcode. Nordic Semiconductor internal information is also included.
