nRF Connect for Visual Studio Code is a set of four custom-made extensions from Nordic Semiconductor:

| nRF DeviceTree | Display custom hardware layouts in a tree structure and edit them using Devicetree Visual Editor. |
| nRF Kconfig | View and customize configuration options with the Kconfig GUI. |
| nRF Terminal | Use UI-based access points to connect over serial port or RTT. |
These extensions are available on the Visual Studio Code Marketplace and on the Open VSX Registry.
All these extensions must be installed and used together for nRF Connect for VS Code to work correctly with the nRF Connect SDK. While you can install only some of them, many of their features are interrelated. For this reason, this documentation does not make a distinction between them and uses the term the extension to refer to the whole set.
On the Visual Studio Code Marketplace, you can install all of the extensions at once using the nRF Connect for Visual Studio Code Extension Pack.
The extension will inform you in the extension status area if any of these extensions is missing.
